The fees associated with purchasing a first home can really add up. To help Canadians with these costs, our Conservative Government introduced the First-Time Buyer’s Tax Credit. The credit allows Canadians to save up to $750 on qualifying homes purchased after January 27, 2009.

The First-Time Buyer’s Tax Credit is also available to existing homeowners who are eligible for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) who purchase a more accessible or functional home, or for the benefit of a DTC-eligible person who is related to the individual purchasing the home by blood, marriage, common-law partnership, or adoption.

Pre-Sell Inspection – Many people hire an inspector when purchasing a new home, but most overlook it when selling.  A home inspector can uncover unknown problems that can be repaired before listing the property.  This can prevent buyer’s walking away from a deal or seeking a price reduction.

Hire a Handyman – After the inspector reveals needed repairs, have a handyman give you an estimate of various upgrades to consider before listing.  Consult your realtor to determine which upgrades will give you a return on your investment and which ones are not worth the effort.

Inventory climbs in Calgary’s housing market
February sales activity remains low

Calgary, March 2, 2015 – Year-over-year new listings growth eased from 37 per cent last month to nine per cent in February. However, as sales activity remained below long term averages for the month, Calgary inventory levels rose to 5,474 units in February.

“While housing supply levels continue to be higher than we have seen in this market for some time, they remain below February 2008 record highs of nearly 7,000 units,” said CREB® chief economist Ann-Marie Lurie. “If the pace of growth in new listings continues to ease, this could place some downward pressure on the supply growth in the resale market.”

After the first two months of the year, there have been 6,236 new listings
